Ben Frimmer, PA-C is opening a primary care practice for adults 18 and over in San Luis Obispo. It's unhurried, integrated primary care: conventional Western medicine and functional medicine, with Eastern and herbal options when they fit. He accepts Medicare and most major PPO insurance plans, and welcomes cash-paying patients.

Ben Frimmer, PA-C
Ben's medical career started in the field. He served as a combat medic in the Israel Defense Forces, logging about 10,000 hours of hands-on care, then worked as a fire-service paramedic and taught paramedics, including Air Force pararescue jumpers.
He earned his Physician Assistant degree from Philadelphia University in 2016 and has practiced family medicine on the Central Coast since 2018. Patients describe him as a good listener who takes his time, explains things clearly and treats them as partners in their care.
At Sunrise Family Medicine, Ben practices under the supervision of Geoffrey Kamen, MD.

Frequently asked questions
What is a PA, and can a PA be my primary care provider?
Yes. A Physician Assistant (PA-C) is a nationally certified, state-licensed medical provider who diagnoses and treats illness, orders and interprets tests, prescribes medication and manages chronic conditions. In California, PAs practice under an agreement with a supervising physician, so you get one consistent provider plus a physician he can consult whenever a case needs it. Ben's supervising physician is Geoffrey Kamen, MD.
Do you take my insurance?
Ben accepts Medicare and PPO plans from Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, CalPERS, Cigna, Health Net, TRICARE and UnitedHealthcare. He isn't able to accept HMO plans or Medi-Cal / CenCal. If you have an HMO plan, you can still see Ben as a cash-pay patient, and we'll give you a superbill to submit to your insurance for possible partial reimbursement. We also accept HSA, FSA and credit cards. Choose your insurance company on the form, and we'll confirm your coverage before your first appointment.
When can I get an appointment?
The practice opens in January 2027. You can pick a time on our secure scheduling page now, or leave your name and number and our office will schedule for you.
I cut myself or I'm really sick. Can I be seen today?
Please call us. Some same-day appointments are available, and Ben can repair cuts with stitches or staples right in the office, which can save you a trip to urgent care. For a medical emergency, call 911.
I see Ben now. Can I follow him?
Yes, and we'd love to keep caring for you. If Ben has seen you before, switching is fast and easy: five minutes or less. Schedule a visit, bring your ID and insurance card, and you're done.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. Ben offers video visits through the practice's secure patient system, so many follow-ups and lab reviews don't need a trip to the office.
